How Much Are Manual Business Processes Costing Your Company?
Manual administrative work can consume significant employee time, especially when teams repeatedly enter data, prepare reports, and follow up on routine requests.
Understanding the cost of manual business processes helps companies decide where automation may be worthwhile.
Start by measuring three things:
1. Time Spent on Repetitive Tasks
Record how many minutes employees spend on activities such as copying customer information, preparing routine updates, or transferring job details.
2. Frequency of the Task
Determine how often the same process occurs each week or month.
3. Employee Time Cost
Multiply the total hours spent by the relevant hourly employment cost to estimate the labour capacity used by that process.
For example, a task taking 10 minutes and occurring 60 times per week consumes 10 employee hours weekly.
Business process automation may reduce some of that work through connected systems, automated updates, and structured workflows.
However, time saved is not automatically money saved. Actual savings depend on reduced expenses, avoided additional costs, or productive use of recovered capacity.
Measure the existing process before automating it. This gives your business a realistic way to evaluate whether the improvement is worth the investment.
